Ants
There are over a dozen kinds of ants in Ohio. There are sugar eating ants, grease eating ants, wood destroying ants, stinging ants, non-pest ants, and even beneficial ants. You can email us with a picture of them and we can help identify them. Don’t spray them with glass cleaner or bleach until you know what they are, because some ants can be made much worse by spraying them.
Field ants are beneficial, and almost never become pests. In fact, they help clean sap off of certain flowers and help them bloom. Pavement ants are the ants that make little mounds on your sidewalk, and are also rarely pests. Just because you find ants in your yard doesn’t mean they need to be killed off, and if they aren’t pestering you, you should just leave them alone.
